Palo Alto, CA – May 18, 2011 – A new study from the Radicati Group, Inc., brings together key data and statistics on the use of Email, Instant Messaging (IM), Social Networking, Wireless Email, and Unified Communications (UC). It includes data on business and consumer email accounts, user demographics, on-premises and hosted email, geographic distribution of user accounts, email accounts by business size and vertical industry, daily email traffic per user, email storage requirements, volume and cost of spam and malware. The report also includes data on the amount of time corporate and consumer users spend daily on email, instant messaging and social networking.
According to the report, the number of worldwide email accounts is expected to increase from 3.1 billion accounts in 2011 to nearly 4.1 billion by year-end 2015. However, a great deal of corporate and consumer communication is also shifting to other forms of communications, particularly Instant Messaging (IM) and social networks.
The number of worldwide IM accounts will total nearly 2.6 billion in 2011, and is expected to grow to over 3.8 billion by year-end 2015. The worldwide number of Social Networking accounts is expected to reach 2.4 billion in 2011.
