Palo Alto, CA – November 23, 2009 – The Radicati Group, Inc.’s latest study, “Business User Survey, 2009,” examines the use of a broad set of messaging and collaboration technologies in both business and consumer contexts.

According to the survey, business users spend an average of 19% of their work day (i.e. 1 hour and 17 minutes) sending and receiving email. In addition, they spend 8% of their work day (i.e. 38 minutes) on Business Social Networking sites, and 7% (i.e. 35 minutes) of their work day on Instant Messaging.

Survey respondents indicated they sent and received an average of 108 business email messages per day in 2009, which is somewhat lower than the average of 140 business email messages sent and received in 2008. This is the first year that users report a decline in the amount of business email sent and received, which is directly attributable to the growing use of other forms of communication in the workplace, such as Instant Messaging, and Business Social Networking.
